Earth is frequently called "Terra" in Heinlein stories. The planet is
featured in every story (with the arguable exception of Orphans of the
Sky); and is, geophysically at least, the same as the "real" Earth.
Between Planets, The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress, and Red
Planet describe the struggles of the human colonies in the Solar System to
achieve political independence from Earth; Podkayne of Mars refers
indirectly to this history.
The following references are distinctive.
1. Emigration to other planets was
strongly encouraged because Earth was overcrowded to the point where it could
barely sustain the population.
(Farmer in the Sky)
2. To the Crew, a mystical
and strictly imaginary place. They were uncertain about the actual meaning of
the term.
(Orphans of the Sky)
3. In Podkayne
Fries' opinion, Earth was not truly suited to human habitation, and the
human race probably didn't really originate there. Although the human colonies
on other planets were politically independent, Earth still dominated them.
(Podkayne of Mars)
4. The human race has long since
outgrown its home planet, and largely abandoned it for a multitude of distant
planets.

of the Cabal;
apparently Louisville, Kentucky.
("If This Goes On—")

political force in the galaxy.
(Citizen of the Galaxy)
2. Earth is part of an interplanetary
system called an Empire but run as a constitutional monarchy complete with

the Emperor's sovereignty and that no member of the Royal family would cross
its borders.
