This one may come to fruition: Stranger in a Strange Land
Announced today for SyFy (NBC Universal). Scott Rudin's group is producing, and they have many respectable accomplishments, no question.
I've been reading about proposed Stranger adaptations for 40 years, at least. This one may actually happen. No word on who's writing the adaptation, nor casting, nor whether there are plans to rethink the source material as a continuing series in the manner of the same network's The Magicians or Amazon's The Man in the High Castle. That would be a bit weird - the Continuing Adventures of V. M. Smith. But maybe it would be a (commercially) smart choice to avoid the ending of the book?

I'm keeping my fingers crossed, JJGarsch. Thanks for tracking down the information.

Well, Walt Disney once said that if he'd known Davy Crockett was going to be such a success, he wouldn't have killed him off in the third show! I guess that means they'd have had to put the Alamo on indefinite hold. So they may be planning ahead on the fate of VMS. LOL
I'm interested in who authorizes film adaptations of Heinlein now. I know Virginia passed away, and evidently with her the ban on all further film licensing, but there hasn't exactly been a stampede.
If I were going to make a continuing series, it wouldn't be Stranger, it would be The Rolling Stones.

As far as I know, the Heinlein Prize Trust holds all the copyrights, so I would assume the trustees are the grantors of permission for adaptations.
