Quote on Religion and the Big Bang
Hope someone here can help me; One of the characters in a Heinlein story or novel said something to the effect that believing in the Big Bang with out believing in a God was for scientists who liked their religion straight with no soda, or vice-versa. I can't remember the exact quote. The gist was, it's just as much a leap of faith to believe a universe that began with a Big Bang as one created by an omnipotent God. I thought that it might be something Jubal Harshaw said in "Stranger in a Strange Land", but my searches there yielded no fruit. So I tried the other books Jubal was in--Number of the Beast, Cat Who Walks Through Walls, To Sail Beyond the Sunset--and didn't have any luck.
My next thought was it was Lazarus, and so I went through The Past Through Tomorrow and Time Enough for Love, but didn't have any luck there, either.
So now I'm stuck. One of the juveniles? (Seems pretty anti-religious for a juvenile.) Somewhere else? Help!

It does not ring a bell. I would bet this is not Heinlein, although it is his style.

Re: Quote on Religion and the Big Bang
I don't recall any specific references to the Big Bang theory in any of Heinlein's writings. Maybe Expanded Universe?

Re: Quote on Religion and the Big Bang
I did just come across a reference that the name came from a dismissive tag applied to the theory. One of those cases where an insult stuck as a legitimate monicker.
