I am mildly horrified. True speed reading is not about reading one word at a time only faster, it's about reading longer groups of words at a time, impossible with that app. It hurt to look at it, and its top speed was still less than my own.

I don't read very efficiently myself. My eyes wander back and forth over groups, slowing my total speed down considerably. I also do a lot of sub-vocalization and I know that that slows me down.
I found the app interesting, but in connection with Peter's comments, maybe it could be modified to teach recognition of increasingly larger groups of words. I once read up on the tachistoscope and I seem to recall that it did work in that fashion, although that was over 40 years ago and I could be wrong.
