I'm waiting for it to come around on Netflix. The only BSG discs I own are the season 1 set, picked up very cheaply the week I decided to watch the darn thing.

I understand the DVD release is longer and steamier than what SyyyyFyyyy watchers will see. And according to the Maxim article someone pointed out to me, Tricia Helfer does not use a body double.

I'm not surprising it's a bit of a disappointment, but compleatism pulls...

What I saw of Caprica in the pilot - to use a word I rarely use - *sucked*. Teen angst, soap drama and Tauran/Caprican Sopranos... no, thank you, I've had enough.

While I enjoyed BSG on SciFi, I've avoided the subsequent shows, mostly as they seem to be more about the non-writers trying to squeeze more profit out rather than the writers telling a compelling story.

And I still can't get my mind wrapped around why in the world they wanted to change the name to SyFy. Just plain silly, to me. Perhaps there was a lawyerly reason rooting around in the background.

Of course, I've heard rumours about the early days when Asimov et al pronounced it skiffy, which may be an apocryphal story, for all I know.

We watched The Plan last night. As people often do on the morning after, I'm trying to figure out why. You nailed it, Dan: a collection of deleted scenes.

And not even that interesting. About a third or more is repeats of broadcast scenes. I think a few scenes actually were deletes or versions for "extended" cuts of various episodes. Obviously, none of this material was going to add anything new.

So maybe half is new material (including the Let's Bomb Caprica technoporn), which adds... almost nothing. They retconned the other Cylons into various places we hadn't known they had been, but as they all lived and died outside the scope of the main story without doing anything that affected the path or outcome, it was "so what?"

We got a lot of semi-philosophical Socratic dialogue between One and One', vaguely reinforcing his hatred of humans and need to go forward with The Plan... but not a new word in the whole stream, I don't think.

We come out the other end, an hour and fifty-three later, having revisited some old places and friends, seen some enhanced new footage of old events, and wandered around backstage in the BSG universe (Cylon division). We don't come out any wiser as to any character's motivation, we don't see anything of significance (some of the extended episodes showed more, and stuff of more importance, in the extensions) and most of all, we get no clarification at all about... The Plan.

Disappointing murk. They had the chance to retcon away a lot of murk, mistakes and babble, and they just dished out another helping. Feh.

Score: One slightly steamy Tricia Helfer scene as one of her bad-girl iterations flounces around in scanties. Whoop.
