2012
Okay, so it's not out yet, but are those not the coolest trailers you've seen in your life? Seriously, who hasn't been waiting for an end-of-the-world movie where some real damage gets done?

Re: 2012
Okay, so I went in expecting nothing more than a special effects eggstravaganza, and I was not disappointed. Anyone thinking they'll get more should do a reality check - I mean, this is from the same guy who did Independence Day and The Day After Tomorrow. I believe his production company is called Plot Holes 'R' Us. But seriously, seeing the total destruction of Los Angeles on the big screen was worth the price of admission.

Re: 2012
We had an earlier discussion on this. After having read some reviews, I'll restate my thesis: the extreme CGI of this film season will kill the big-budget FX-driven movie, and it's long overdue. They've pushed the FX so far that it pushed the rest of the film right off the screen - which is only a problem of scale with respect to prior films that were overly driven by what could be FXed.
Good riddance to bad rubbish. Films that use this fantastic technology and capability to further what film has always been about will be on the rise in the next few seasons.

And if you've not had enough of remakes of classic sci-fi yet... http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0455856/ .

I also heard that there were standing ovations in USA when the aliens blew up the Whitehouse in ID! I do believe there were a few cheers over here too!

Re: 2012
Sadly enough, I think Jim's prophecy will simply turn out to not be true. I quote H.L. Mencken: "Nobody ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American people."
This is particularly true of genus Hollywood...producers will keep pushing for bigger budgets, because only a huge big-budget film gets them to the top of the pyramid.
