Easy Go
Before Michael Crichton became a household word, he wrote adventure thrillers under the name John Lange. "Easy Go" is The Italian Job meets Indiana Jones, and it's well worth a gander. It's not overly ambitious, and despite moving slowly in places, continued to hold my interest through it's sharply drawn characters and must-have-been-there geographical verisimilitude. The male leads are all possessed of a devil-may-care dominance untainted by any post feminism world. It's a linear single track story, but a most readable one: there's some raw writing talent on display.

Re: Easy Go
I'll have to give this book a try. I'm not a fan of Crichton's later work -- he makes some fundamental scientific errors that qualify as bloopers, IMHO, and the storytelling talent didn't manage to overcome them for me. But I always thought that he'd be able to write a decent adventure story of the less SF type, where he wouldn't have to pretend a knowledge about certain scientific facts that he doesn't possess.
