Post No Place To Hide / Greenwald
Read . Everyone with the slightest interest in personal privacy, government surveillance or malfeasance, or the future (or lack of it) of freedom owes it to themselves to read this book. This is the Edward Snowden story. It fills in a lot of depth in the popular account.

I'm struck by the irony of how the government claims it is necessary to invade the privacy of every individual (but that they're not getting any important information anyway), yet when the citizenry requests the same transparency of the same government (such as to know why those invasions should be necessary), said government clamps down and acts outraged that anyone should be so nosy.

The book is quite good, IMHO better than CitizenFour, although I usually prefer the book to the movie so maybe my take isn't entirely fair. :) Do be warned that, while engaging and compelling, this book is NOT light reading for anybody.

Yes, it contains a few dozen PowerPoint slides to boot. But its main challenge is in provoking thought about the meaning of freedom and privacy.j

I'd say the biggest challenge is how it shows the huge gap between what modern technology allows governments and big businesses to do, and what our legal systems are able to prevent. :/
