Belated Happy Birthday, Dan! Apologies -- I've been busy and didn't log on for several days. |

I am *so* sorry I didn't see these back in March! Thank you all very much! At the time I was in the hospital getting my aortic valve replaced and a massive spleen abscess dealt with, both the result of a horribly nasty blood infection of enterococcus faecalis, picked up during a month in rehab following a broken leg, which itself was caused by a diabetic blood sugar crash that rendered me unconscious while I was standing up last October 26. And that wasn't the worst of it. At the time I went unconscious, I was gathering my luggage to take my girlfriend on a long-postponed bucket-list 12-day vacation in Italy. And I'm still not out of the woods. I now have a new diagnosis of Charcot Foot, Stage 3 (I had never heard of it), the result of both the diabetes and the leg trauma, and I've been back in a non-weight-bearing cast for six weeks. If we don't get the foot stabilized, it will have to be amputated. Somewhere in all that, I stopped getting emails from the Forum, and it didn't occur to me to check in until today, when I got an email from a friend referring to If This Goes On..., which I posted in another thread, and discovered how much I had been missing. So, while it *really* sucks to be me this year, I genuinely appreciate the birthday wishes. Thank you!! Dan |

P.S.: For my aortic valve replacement, I had the choice of a mechanical valve that would last forever but require being on blood thinners the rest of my life, or a pig valve that would need to be replaced in 10-15 years but require no blood thinners. I chose the pig valve. So I guess, by some verse in Ecclesiastes, that makes me a walking abomination unto the Lord. Works for me. |

What you've been through has been horrendous, Dan. Get well. And may 2017 be better for you than 2016. FWIW, a few years ago Louis Farrakhan had something really wrong with where the sun don't shine. I've forgotten exactly what it was. To make a long story short, rumor has it that his rectum was replaced with the corresponding part from a pig. |
