The 7/7 Thread
It is just a 1/365.25 chance, but it's amazing how many people share July 7 as a birthday. At least, it's amazing how many such cross the lines of my life and interests.
Happy 105th, Mr. Heinlein, if you're still paying attention to us sprogs back here on Earth.
Happy 100th, Dr. Cornog - that's a new one on me.
Happy mumbleth, Peter Scott - may you get this late because you're doing something more interesting today than reading the forum.
My most recent 7/7 amusement was when I found out that Frank B. Gilbreth was born on... yes, July 7. How very strange that one of my next big interests should turn out to share that birth date! Even more amusingly, he'd be 144 this solar circumnavigation, or (wait for it...) a dozen dozen. Nothin' cheap about that.

Thanks. I was most disappointed in 2005 when terrorists appropriated this day for their purposes in London.

Re: The 7/7 Thread
Sober's not too bad - but more on that in a minute. Alone is a crime, because you need several people to chorus "YES!" when you shriek, "Did he/she just do what I thought s/he did?"
Long story story, making that post made me go look, and yes, Starcrash is available on Netflix streaming. So I put it on the list and made the mistake of mentioning it at dinner. On it went for the evening entertainment. Audrey left the room after about ten minutes but could see it from her sewing table. The twins and I howled our way through the beast, at times so gut-sore we had to pause the movie and catch our breath.
As Andy Borntreger puts it, this is a b-movie even for people who think they'd never be able to stand a b-movie. It's just got... everything, including a VERY beautiful female lead who can't act her way out of a sheer plastic bag (and in the second half of the movie, she tries).
And in some scenes, David Hasselhoff, in his meticulous perm and mascara, is even prettier than she is. But no brighter.
It really, really, really is worth a watch with a roomful of people and some anesthesia in mugs. I liked it so much I am buying the restored Blu-Ray. Really. To go with my copy of The Giant Claw, Andy B's other favorite b-slinger.
However... do NOT drink hard alcohol while watching this. I made the horrid mistake of taking a sip of bourbon just as something extremely zany hit the screen. I was already lung-tired and wrung out, so I couldn't swallow, couldn't keep from laughing, and had to draw breath to do the latter... and I'd rather aim a welding torch down my throat than inhale a half-ounce of 100 proof again. I stood up, spasming and choking, and my 12yo panicked and tried giving me a Heimlich, and I finally unconstricted my burning throat and windpipe muscles to suck in air... and with my lungs absolutely on fire, commenced laughing so hard I scared both kids, Audrey and the Great Danes.
My lungs still hurt today, but whether it's from the alcohol lavage or almost two hours of laughing harder than I've laughed in years... I dunno.

For even greater hilarity, invest a couple of bucks in the treatment of this turkey.

My birthday - August 11 - is the anniversary of the big explosion on the Moon cited in :D Black Pits of Luna.
