Post RIP Jordin T. Kare, physicist & musician
I'm sad to relay the news that passed away yesterday, according to his wife, Mary Kay Kare.

Jordin described himself as a "lapsed astrophysicist;" he is known for work on laser-powered rockets and on power beaming.

In science fiction fandom, Jordin was among the most prominent of filksingers. Members of this community might recall him singing onstage at the Heinlein Centennial in 2007.

I don't suppose I could call Jordin a close friend, but I knew him for over 30 years. Sometimes we sang together, sometimes we did science panels together, sometimes . Once we even wrote a song together. It was always a delight to encounter him.

My heart goes out to Mary Kay. So many people will miss him.

Kare was a name I instantly recognized that showed up in so many places. Someone unafraid to stand for something big.
