Post A General's Life
This is Omar Bradley's autobiography (with considerable help from Clay Blair).

The opening chapters, by this Missouri boy, and his time at West Point in the early twentieth century, seem to me to resonate with Heinlein's experience.

Also, it is a book that attempts to correct a number of factual errors about the strategic decisions made at the highest levels of Allied command during WWII.

In addition, I have far less respect for Patton or Montgomery (highly influenced, admittedly, by viewing the movie "PAtton" on too many times).

Highly readable, engaging, and enlightening.

Didn't the movie "Patton" heavily use Bradley's recollections/memoirs as source material?

He served as an advisor. Karl Malden's performance was heavily influenced. But there were still things....tweaked away from Bradley's perspective.

Ike comes in for some revisionist refiling in my head too after reading Bradley's book. Not quite the great general I had thought he was, based on textbooks and documentaries.

Bradley's book has the ring of truth to it.
