Notes on biology
The metabolism of a pregnant woman is a fascinating thing. Normally my wife's peripheral circulation is about as efficient as the California state budget approval process. "I'm cold" is the existential cry of the female of the species. But in her gravid state, she groans about the heat while I am shivering under extra blankets, and her hands are little fingered furnaces. Usually, I heat her hands with mine. Now it is the other way around. Whatever is going on in her body, it sure is managing energy conversion efficiently.

Re: Notes on biology
For many years I had a small cartoon taped up in my office - it shows a man in bed, with a woman coming down the hall. Her feet are frozen in blocks of ice. The caption was "Why women mate."
It begins young. Someday I'll tell the story of my 2yo daughter's "COLD FEET!"
