Knowing
Caught this on DVD also. I like Nicolas Cage more than my sense of refinement tells me I should, so stuff the refinement. (I thought Next was an excellent flick and the sequence where he escapes a casino full of cameras and security agents was riveting.)
This movie brought something both fresh and stale to the genres that it hops across, morphing from psychic suspense thriller to horror to sci-fi to end-of-the-world. The last scene is so derivative of CE3K that Spielberg should get royalties. However, it ended on much more of a down note than that movie, and the very last shot was at best bittersweet and at worst, confused. A decent plot line but not a movie I came away from feeling good about seeing.
However, Cage turned in a good performance and his stereotypical performance of the guy who desperately needs to convince someone of an outlandish proposition was well exercised.
