Can you imagine Eisenhower or Stevenson stooping to this?

Reagan and Bush Sr. were both gentlemen. I can't imagine *this* of Bush Jr., and my opinion of him is perhaps best left for that other topic. (wry grin) Gingrich is a character, to be sure. I think I'd like to meet him at a con sometime. But vote for him? I can't even consider his views on the issues because he's so volatile I'm afraid he'd declare war on somebody the day he was sworn in just because he didn't like them. :/

I know Jerry Pournelle is big on Newt. One of the the only complaints I have with his notes in Take Back Your Government was using the book as a platform to fawn over Newt. The other complaint was Pournelle seemed to give up about 2/3's of the way through the book. There were some interesting notes and stories he had included.

Well at least they had better vocabulary back then :-)

I voted for Perot. I didn't care where he came from or whether he was the best candidate. I did it because I wanted the status quo upset. The two parties have became way too cosy. They need someone to remove their sinecure.

That sounds like a vote for Ron Paul this time around. ;)

I mostly ignore political parties and just look at candidates, so that he's running on the GOP ticket (or any party ticket) doesn't bother me. Paul is essentially libertarian, not Republican. I voted for him as a protest vote in 1988 because I thought the choice between GHWB and Michael Dukakis was lame. (I've grown up a bit since.) <G>

I like Paul for President because I trust him to do exactly what he says he wants to do. I don't like Paul for President because I trust him to do exactly what he says he wants to do. <wry grin> The latter would almost certainly win out in my case. But it's annoying to have a choice between a failed president/mediocrity on the one hand (IMHO Stevens is prone to wishful thinking and hand waving) and a candidate whose ability to understand the needs and interests of the average American appears almost nil on the other (assuming Romney gets the election). :/
