Bill Patterson, "Learning Curve"
Not to make anybody jealous, but I got the chance to read Bill's advance copy of his biography.
All I can say is, "Wow". Well, I could say more, but that does it.
It is a biography that does everything we could ask and more -- including becoming a far more readable, polished, and solidly grounded piece of work than Bill's massive rough draft was.
Bravo, Bill -- and when does that second volume come out, anyways?

Extremely jealous - I can't wait to finally read it.

Re: Bill Patterson, "Learning Curve"
now enjoys this same privilege as Dr. James. Clute reviews "Learning Curve" in the course of also reviewing Cory Doctorow's latest book.

Re: Bill Patterson, "Learning Curve"
Yes, but he didn't read quite the same book I did. Clute never reads quite the same book I do; it's like talking with a character in Alice in Wonderland -- it's the same subject, but refracted strangely. Read Clute's collected reviews (there are three of them now, iirc) -- brilliant, but odd at times to the point of incomprehensibility.
