Post The Dark Knight Rises - NONSPOILER THREAD
No spoilers in this thread, please...

Saw DKR this afternoon, in IMAX. I don't know if all fans of the first two films will be wild about it, but Nolan has taken us on one hell of a long, deeply satisfying ride.

There is at least one really major spoiler point that I understand some of the clueless reviewers have spilled - so if it's not too late, and you intend on seeing the film this week, DO NOT READ ANY REVIEWS AT ALL. I have followed this movie through rumor and denial and while the ending came out right about where I expected it to, there is a twist near the end that I did NOT see coming and it was a kick in the ass.

Anne Hathaway makes a lovely Cat Burglar - they never use her traditional name but if you haven't seen Nolan's interpretation, where her flip-up goggles make cat ears without being stupid about it, you'll get a good giggle from it. Her interplay with Bats is a perfect distillation of the complexity of her character through the years.

In the final sequences, every character has a strong, critical role to play and Nolan weaves their efforts together masterfully.

The movie closes out on EXACTLY the right note. EXACTLY. And there is no tag scene, don't bother waiting through the credits.

And that's nuf sed. Go see it. F*ck James Holmes for screwing it up for all of us.

It's definitely on our list here. Just waiting for the crowds to die down a bit. Thanks for the tip about "no after-scene". I hate sitting through credits! :-)

Finally was able to see it today.

I loved it. I liked it more than The Dark Knight. Characters were hitting the right notes, lovely nods to the past, enjoyed the twists, and never felt cheated during the movie.

A very different approach to the idea of a superhero than what has been presented through the Marvel films. For the most part, superheroes are the modern incarnation of the gods of myth, but Batman has no super powers, and that makes for a richer field of storytelling, for Bruce Wayne is a human who dares to equal the gods while Alfred reminds him, "thou art mortal."

Ok, I'm going ot go back to reading my copies of Before Watchmen now...

Saw it this past weekend and it was truly excellent. It wraps up the trilogy perfectly. I can't think of a thing I would change. I avoided spoilers so was pleasantly surprised by a twist I never saw coming, even though it seemed obvious afterward. If you liked the first two movies, even a little, see this.
