Run, do not walk, to catch Gravity in the best theater you can find - IMAX 3D will be worth the extra cost. The sooner you see it and the less you know about it, the better.

Game-changer. Landmark. Instant addition to the pantheon of classics. Major, major eff-you to the studios churning out derivative trash. Best Picture, Director, Actress, Original Screenplay, possibly Editing, Cinematography and Score. Alfonso Cuaron has joined the gods of cinema with this one.

Heinlein would have loved every single frame of it.

Well, the preview I saw looked cheesy indeed, so I appreciate the post. I had crossed it off the might-see list, but am now reconsidering...

Today I attended an excellent talk by Prof. Pat Seitzer of the University of Michigan. He is using various ground-based telescopes to study orbital debris in geosynchronous orbit. It was all about the consequences when one orbiting object smashes into another, generating lots of orbiting objects, large and small.

In the middle of this talk, he showed the poster for Gravity, and mentioned that he'd seen it this weekend.

Thumbs--

(though the film takes a few artistic liberties with orbital inclination)

--up.

I already had enormous respect for the director after I saw "." Can't wait to see this one.
