Post Star Trek Continues
http://www.startrekcontinues.com/ is a fan production based on the original series, picking up directly after the end of Turnabout Intruder. They are allowed to use copyright elements as long as they don't make money, and they use the original music to full effect. The production values are excellent - the sets, effects, and costumes are flawless - although the casting and acting are, predictably, wincingly bad in many places. The story lines and scripts are fairly good and firmly anchored in the original universe.

The main appeal of this show for me, however, is the performance of the Kirk actor, Vic Mignogna, who also does everything from executive producer to incidental music composer. He has caught Shatner in a bottle. Every mannerism, facial expression, movement, and nuance faithfully executed to a degree that prompts thoughts paralleling various movie plots of obsessive mimicry. Squint and you can think you're watching the real thing. It's a pity that the actors for Spock and McCoy aren't up to snuff because the troika chemistry will never come back, but every scene that centers on Kirk alone is like having an old friend to visit.

Thanks for the link, PeterScott.

Wow, Vic Mignogna does capture The Shat perfectly! I think the others jar so much in part because Mignogna is so flawless in his Kirk reincarnation.

It should be pointed out all the Star Trek (Classic and TNG) people involved with this: Michael Dorn, Marina Sirtis (as the computer voice), Chris Doohan (the son of James Doohan) as Scotty and, in the first episode, Michael Forest (who reprises his role as Apollo, nearly 40 years later).

I always wondered what happened to old Mythbusters participants after they got fired. Now I know: Grant Imahara is playing Sulu! I used to love Mythbusters: here were all these youngsters getting to do things our parents never let us do, like blowing up things.

Their fourth episode, as clunky as the scripting and direction are, gets the job done. It yanks on the heartstrings with a heavy hand, but it gets a grip nevertheless. It felt like one of the better episodes of the original.

I am a fan of this series. It does an excellent job of recreating the feel of the original series. Perhaps I am more tolerant or less critical, but I don't mind the acting and think most of it is acceptable to good. And the writing is pretty good, on average, too. I like that they address issues, just like the original did.

There are other fan produced Star Trek series, quite a few in fact. They vary in quality from very amateurish to near professional, but all are real labors of love. This website, , lists all of them.
