The Menace from Earth
The good folks at Wikipedia (you can stop reading now, Jim) tell us that Ariel Brentwood, the "menace", is a member of the Howard Families. This point had escaped me for 30 years of reading Heinlein. Is it true? Where else does she show up?

You can request that the page be frozen, and explain why. They often do agree, knowing this is a problem.

Re: The Menace from Earth
My most notable battle of this type was between nobody me and a four-star, garlanded, lauded uber-contributor who must have had bots watching the relevant page, because my (completely correct, legitimate and minor) changes sometimes disappeared between page refreshes.
I just don't care to fight any more of those battles. WP is overrun by idiots and assholes and what little value it has is as an intellectual leveler between those who know and those who don't have anything better to do.
The original concept was grievously flawed and no number of fix-ups, changes, patches and promises to make it better can turn that Yugo into a Lambo.

I agree....and yet, it is still useful for many quick checks. The links at the bottom are often quite useful as well.

Re: The Menace from Earth
I use it frequently for pop topics - which is the sweet spot for a public info-wiki. And it's been famously established that the hard science entries are rigorously watched and maintained (perhaps the theoretical sweet spot of collaborative encyclopedism). Everything else is a complete crapshoot, and I have enough crap to shoot these days.

If I ever write a phrase like "he is browbeating their inner self", I hope my friends will stage an intervention and confiscate all my healing crystals and 12-step DVDs.

Re: The Menace from Earth
I can't remember who said this wonderfully acid assessment (Dreiser? Someone of that era), but it has resonated at many points in my intellectual interactions: "'Whom are you?' he asked, for he had been to night school."
And not quite on point but in the same Dewey classification (Geo will get this one as a former Sacramento kid): "Thanks to the Western Truck Driving School of Computer Repair, yesterday I could not spell 'teknishun' and today I are one!"

It would be way cool if were capped with an airtight membrane and the inside pressurized.
