Wave a hand if you get it:

They don't and won't understand anything technical that doesn't translate to eye candy. They keep on staff moochers with no technical ability to perform functions like changing the font size on a web page in only three days. You port that web site from VMS to Unix in a weekend, or from MS Access to Oracle, and they shrug: "Meh. What took you so long? Now if you were doing something difficult, like changing the background color on this page, we could understand." Bu they keep the moochers on board, and at the same compensation rate as you - to be fair, of course. Fair to you, since you're not performing as valuable a service as the eye candy folk.

[This is not to denigrate people with real expertise in user interfaces. I am talking about people who literally get paid to "move this text over here, make these words bold" and so forth. And they get fawned over for doing such an amazing job.]

Don't look to me for an argument. There are always pompous fakers who can baffle the sheep with a few cheap parlor tricks, and keep doing it while you stand next to them pulling miracles out of your ass and getting docked for being ten minutes late.

I know the issues in the IT, software and general tech field; I assure you it's much worse in the creative spectrum, where complete fakes who have learned one or two bits of razzle-dazzle can hold off Leonardo and Michelangelo with a Sharpie... and make client/bosses beg for more.
