Post Sunset on the Tevatron

After 28 years of operation, the largest particle accelerator in the U.S. was shut down last Friday. BoingBoing asked me to write about the occasion.

Be assured that Fermilab is still slinging beams and doing physics! The Linac, the Booster, and the Main Injector are still operating, and there are plans for new experiments to re-use the three storage rings previously used for antiproton production.

Thank you for the information. I heard a short piece on NPR that made it sound like they pulled the plug on Grandpa, and he was going to be buried. ;)
