Post Volume II Amazon Reviews
There aren't any yet, as of June 3, 1400 Pacific time. Who will be the first? I'll have one after I've read the book but with slow shipping that will be a week or more.

I'll probably get mine around the time that you get yours. Very much looking forward to it. :-) I'll post my review on my own blog primarily, although I'll probably copy it here too.

I'm not seeing very much publicity on Vol 2. I remember when Vol 1 came out, Tor's blog site had a lot of discussion (remember Jo Walton's criticism and Bill P's responses?) The only thing I see on Tor's site for Vol 2 is a simple mention that the book is in release.

Here's a big piece from the .

It's mostly a criticism of Heinlein, rather than the book. He does make some of the same points as critics of v. I - too "official biography"-like, too worshipful of subject; the url even has "hagiography" in it. The usual error about Heinlein, that his fiction reflected his real-life "beliefs"; the reviewer even wonders how to reconcile ST with SISASL with MIAHM, but misses the point...

But its publication in New Republic it should be great for stirring up interest.

Addendum: I see Steve Sailer posted some comments on the New Republic review. I would give some very good odds that Sailer will eventually post something about v. II (he's now at )

It is *funny* to watch people try to force a cookie-cutter onto Heinlein's work, or (worse) Heinlein himself. I've become an unbeliever in cookie cutters (labels) for human beings anyway, but Heinlein breaks preconceptions the way a two-year-old breaks toys.

Got my copy July 12, did a quick scan of the index citations for "Panshin" -- I am going to write an essay of sorts for R. Pearson's blog on that controversy -- then started reading from Page One. Up to Page 320 so far. When done, I will take a little break for Tibetan Peach Pie.

Here is the .

The page you cited demonstrates that divisive and corrosive sniping follows Panshin postings as the tail follows the dog. I want a place where I can relax with fellow fans and have productive discussions of Heinlein's positive and negative aspects without having to tune out the baiting of someone looking to tweak us. Geo conducted himself with aplomb in that thread.
