I am as well, although there have been a few remarkably mistaken posts.

Is there more to it than what is on the first post?

Yes, there were.

There were also claimed errors that simply...weren't. Walton was raising a massive red flag and suggesting that a decade's worth of work and intensely footnoted research was chock full of errors.

It was, to say the least, injurious. It was, to say the most, libelous.

I'm afraid I flew to the defense of my friend, and should have probably slowed myself down after the initial response, and taken longer to explore the boy king comment I found.

I have no problem with negative reviews; I just find it infuriating when people haven't bothered to actually read the book carefully (Critic's Room, anyone?). But overall, the blogs have been interesting.

The hits just keep on comin' . . .

Keep checking the comments in the older threads -- the discussions continue in, uh, interesting ways.

Balkanization can be a good thing. I am profoundly glad that the great unwashed are not polluting this forum, for instance. On the few occasions that I sully myself by reading any of the comments on CNN.com or LATimes.com articles, I always profoundly regret it. If there are any wise, coherent thoughts in there they are buried under an avalanche of fetid puerile hateful invective.

Agreed. Humor puts the onus on the artist; if the audience doesn't get it, it's their fault. Wit puts the onus on the audience; if they don't get it, it's their fault. Wit exercises the intellect and celebrates cleverness.

The above was from me... once again the board decided to change its mind about whether I was logged in between the time it took me to the new post and the time I posted my reply.
