Post Jeanne Robinson, RIP
I got an e-mail from Spider Robinson this a.m. saying Jeanne had passed away about 4:45 p.m. yesterday, Sunday May 30, 2010. Ave atque vale. He will notify local friends of the memorial service in a few days.

Ah, jeeze. I knew she was not doing well, but that is still such a horrible loss. My prayers are with her and Spider.

I don't know that it would be okay to repost Spider's email - on the one hand, he did send it to all of us on his general contact loop, but OTOH, he did only send it to his contact loop, as far as I know. Perhaps he'll add it to his web site.

I'll simply say that it's one of the finest bits of Spider-scrawl I've read in a long time.

He does have something up on his website: http://www.spiderrobinson.com/index2.html

One of the highlights of the Centennial for me was the unexpected pleasure of meeting Jeanne and finding out what a great lady she was.

Sigh.

A sad day. Not unexpected, but no less sad because of it.

My Condolences to Spider. Knowing the inevitable is coming, may allow a person time to steel their nerves and gather their resources, but in the end the grief is just as strong.

Upon, reading his blog, it seems that he has garnered some small measure of relief from the letter to 4e that is currently circulating. I know that Spider is the ultimate RAH fan, and I'm glad that this letter came to him at this time. Hang in there Spider! We are all wishing you the best in your time of grief.

Sigh.

Did she take the zero-g flight that Peter Diamandis offered at the convention? I did not check.

I don't know if she was on the flight, but a dancer under her supervision did get a flight to try out the planned choreography. That was always as intended as Jeanne tacitly admitted her dancing days were past... I wonder now how long Spider and Jeanne might have known of her illness.

"Nunnie," as my Bawstun cousins would have said. (I asked what it meant. "Nunnie-ya-fuggin-bidness"...)

Unfortunately true. :/ I'd heard about this a few days ago; should've posted here.

Terri won't ask directly, and she has good health insurance so her family probably isn't facing bankruptcy, but there's a LOT with this sort of diagnosis that insurance simply doesn't cover. So any donations that people can afford to give can go here:

http://gracefulwomanwarrior.org/contact.html

If (like me) you avoid PayPal, you can mail a check here:

I know that they'll appreciate anything that people can spare.

Has Spider Robinson retired? I don't see anything by him on the ISFDB since about 2010. And his website hasn't been updated with anything other than statuses of the illnesses of his family in some time.

Between his own health problems and his family losses, I can understand how writing and publishing might not be what he wants to do, but it would be a shame if he has stopped.

That was entertaining. And yep, I bet Jeanne would have liked it.
