Death at a Funeral
Just got around to this fine 2007 British production. If you like your humor straight up, dry and based on increasing levels of absurdity, rent this.
So I go to look up some details in IMDb and find, to my horror, that it's being remade.
With an American cast. An all African-American cast. Chris Rock among them.
As no American remake of a foreign film made solely to make it "appeal to American audiences" has ever been anything but a suck-fest, my heart fell just seeing the 2010 listing. Seeing how the chose to cast it - which, I'm sorry, almost certainly tells how they're going to spin it - is just awful. I'd love it to be the first black comedy (er, doubly black comedy...) to rely on genuine wit and humor, and not on Eddie Murphy/Chris Rock jackassery only one step removed from Amos and Andy.
But I won't bet that way. Hollywood already thinks its audience is composed of morons. What they think of the "black audience" is unprintable in this day and age.

Re: Death at a Funeral
Reminds me of the time I was in my local multiplex for some other movie and noticed that one named Friday was playing there as well. I couldn't *not* check out the possibility that a film treatment of one of my favorite Heinlein books had been brought to theaters completely under my radar, so I ducked in to check it out.
And ducked right back out. I only needed maybe 10 seconds to validate what you said about how Hollywood treats black audiences.
