Since big chunks are now readable online . . . . Hollywood producer William Dozier is mentioned a couple of times. I can't believe Bill P. would have given a list of credits that didn't include Batman (the 1960s TV show). |

I have pre-ordered the book (of course) and I read the first chapters on Amazon. Well done, but I get the feeling there's so much more in the background, a lot had to be cut...sometimes it's as if we're skimming the surface. I want more about what Heinlein was reading at the time, more of his opinions on people and news events of the day, more about influences on his writing. There seemed to be more of that in v. I. Of course, when the whole book comes out there may be more in the parts yet unread. However, the sample here makes me think that it would be great to have all of Bill's material available somehow. |

I picked up vol 2 at my local bookstore late Sunday afternoon. I read about 50 pgs but I can tell I am going to enjoy it. Just wish I could tell Bill. |

A couple of , that if parsed carefully, might yield some errors to be corrected. In fact, entering "Heinlein" into the blog's search box returns a good deal of negative commentary on the bio. DeLong doesn't appear to be a fan. |

Got my copy a few days ago, but I just had time to start reading it this evening. So far, a few pages into it, I'm really enjoying it.  I'll post something substantial about it when I've finished reading it, but I think that anybody who would hang out here or in any forum about Heinlein would want to read this book.

 I was planning to blog about the biography, but I think that I'll just link to that one. If it doesn't say it all, it says everything that I would have most wanted to say, and I don't think that I could say it better or even as well. |

Finished the book, today, finally--I decided to hold off until I had completed some other books in the queue and really savor it...and it is terrific, even better than I expected, and in some ways I like it even more than v.1. Bill came through with the more extensive commentary on ST, SIASL and TMIAHM that he had talked about, and I found those parts particularly interesting. Appendix 2 is particularly intriguing. I hope that Robert and Ginny were waiting for Bill at the end of "the tunnel" when he passed a few months ago. What a marvelous work he has left behind, so much more of a signal to the future than most of us (if we don't have children). I expect to write something more in depth soon. |
