I found this very interesting. He almost makes me reconsider my opinion of the Starship Troopers movie.

Not I. But the rest was interesting. He failed to consider, though, the possibility that Heinlein had been doing in Beyond This Horizon exactly what he attributes to Verhoeven. Could he have been mocking the socialist utopia that Brin thinks is a window into Heinlein's soul? Probably not, but we have all learned the danger of attributing a Heinlein story trope to the man's personal beliefs.

Could be. But I do agree with Brin that Heinlein's libertarianism is not what passes for libertarianism today. The libertarians I know do worship Atlas Shrugged and not anything written by Heinlein.

A lot of people are libertarian-leaning, as in favor limited government that maximizes individual freedom wherever possible, who aren't members of the Libertarian party or "joiners" of any sort. You'll find the Heinlein lovers in that crowd, not going to LP conventions. ;)

Ginny was constantly on my butt to vote Libertarian, but she never suggested that I join the party or attend any meetings :-)
