I finally got to visit the Seattle Sciffy Museum. It became instantly apparent why the Centennial got nowhere in trying to persuade them to accept Heinlein exhibits. They have no permanent exhibition space and no general sci-fi exhibits. When I was there all they had was an Avatar exhibition and a Battlestar Galactica exhibition, on separate floors.

Now don't get me wrong, they're worth the price of admission; really top drawer stuff. But the layout of the museum is such that they could never accommodate something like the Heinlein furniture, etc, we wanted them to display, in any reasonable layout. They are not a museum in the traditional sense; they are a location for rotating exhibits. It seems from the pictures that they had a Star Trek one once; that would have been cool.

An actual SF museum that attempted to cover the breadth and history of the field would be terrific IMHO, and ought to exist.

If a couple of the "gee whiz" exhibits were torn down there'd be more than enough room for some more artifacts from/about the lives of the Hall of Fame members. IMNSHO, of course.

But they have only a couple of gee-whiz exhibits to begin with. There's just not that much room.

I went the year the Nasfic was in Seattle, and they did, indeed, have a Star Trek exhibit. It was very odd to me -- imagine drug store quality clothes with gold rick-rack trim. Really.

Just goes to show you that whoever dubbed it "Tinseltown" wasn't kidding.
