Post The Transition Continues --Report Issues Here
As of last evening, NexusForum is now hosted on THS hosting. The intent was this would be transparent to the users --to the degree there are any issues, feel free to report them here.

I notice the avatars didn't translate as of yet --I don't know yet if that is reasonably fixable from the back ends (Jim and Rob), or will require the users to upload them again on the new hosting account individually. Somebody will report here when we determine that.

Anything else?

Per his request, Jim is ambling slowly away from day to day involvement (tho his wise counsel and experience on issues will always be welcome), and David Wright, Sr. will have first line responsibility for making the trains run on time here, with the able help of Rob Hays (THS Webmaster) to assist on back-end issues.

At Jim's advice, we have shifted THS hosting to the same hosting company that NexusForums was using previously, with the intent of providing the same excellent forum performance/responsiveness that NF had prior to the switchover. So far, so good on that score, from what I see initially.

Thank yous are in order, and mine are most certainly offered, to Jim, Rob, and DW for their work in this effort.

David Wright seems to have determined by reviewing the last forum hosting transition that Avatars will indeed have to be re-uploaded on an individual basis. Our regrets for this minor inconvenience.

The other thing I've noticed so far, is my login does not seem to be reliably persisting indefinitely, nor the "remember me" autologin doing its thing, but rather I've had to login again a few times. Anybody else?

I think both the avatar issue and the persistent login problems trace to improper permission settings on the forum directories - phpBB is fussy about certain ones being open to user read/write and it can take a few passes to unlock the correct directories without exposing security holes. I am in comm with Rob about it.

I wanted to post a remark in the new "Feedback" topic under "Board index >> Forum Administration >>Orientation & Updates." But I found I could not.

My view of this page had this URL:
viewtopic.php?f=6&t=802&p=7099&sid=c0424c794891d53f4aa9ad6631037606#p7099

At the bottom of the page, it said:

You cannot post new topics in this forum
You cannot reply to topics in this forum
You cannot edit your posts in this forum
You cannot delete your posts in this forum

Was I logged in? Yes, I was logged in.

(Had I been allowed to post a Feedback, I would have asked about "Profile >> Edit Signature," which tells me: "You are not authorised to define a signature." This is a problem that existed before the transition to the THS site, but it would be nice if it too were fixed.)

Message from John Tilden last night on Facebook about 7pm. He says he uses the "green board" (I don't, but assume that is a different theme) and that he basically can't see/do anything when he logs in.

Has that been addressed yet? In the meantime, changing him to the default theme should probably take care of it (I'll go look at that now).

Hi Folks, with this morning's logon I am "in" and able to post (obviously) but can't figure out themes and user settings. I'm not "green" but the default blue/grey.

Not sure if my avatar works, I guess I'll know with this post.

I'm not super-worried about the themes, just wanted to be able to track the new posts and follow along. ;)

I do have the User Control Panel option now, just can't figure out if the option to change colors/themes is supposed to be available or where that piece is. No rush.

It also strikes me that if we continue to have tags on the board for users it might be appropriate to have "Society Member", "Society Charter Member", "Society Director", etc. as a tag in addition to the HC tags.

Post Re: The Transition Continues --Report Issues Here
The alternate green theme should be available and working now - Rob installed it last night. The confusion came from having it "installed" in the transferred settings but not actually, well, installed.

I've patched and fixed a few things in the background and the only problem I'm aware of is the refusal of the system to hold persistent logins - which I am pretty sure is a deep directory-permissions issue, resolvable only by Rob. I've pointed him in the right direction on that but it may take a few days.

I agree with JT that the special membership designations should be overhauled. A heads up, though - creating new groups (THS Member, etc.) fragments the permission settings and you have to be careful to copy permissions or set them appropriately for each group. Failure to do so results in the odd problems like Bill H's inability to set a signature, etc.

I "forced" JT's theme to the blue from the back-end this morning after his initial report that green wasn't working (from last night), and before I saw notice that it had since been fixed.

So that might be the issue why he doesn't have an option to change it now. . . I'll go unforce it.

'Getaway Green' problem

There is an option on the 'board settings' admin to override user style with default. changing that to 'no' should fix it.

Right, David. That's what I did to JT when he told me that green wasn't working at all for him.

Undone now, so hopefully he has the option again in his UCP.

Why do I have this image of the Three Stooges in a power plant, alternately slapping switches and each other? :D

Seriously, folks, this is the Dance of a Thousand Details. We'll get it smoothed out soon.

Post Persistent Login fixed... I think...
I went through the system settings and made a number of changes related to the host domain, cookie name, etc. - and that seems to have fixed persistent logins. I recommend that each user log out, close their browser, open it again, and log in carefully with the "keep me logged in" box checked. That should do it. If not, try purging all cookies related to the Nexus in your browser and try again.

I was successfully maintaining a persistent login from three browsers (home, work and mobile) with no problems before the host change, so I know it can be done.

Report any further problems with persistent logins.

My account seems to be persisting nicely now, and auto-logging in when I return.

I have an email this morning from Bill P saying he's having problems signing on --I pointed him at Jim's advice above.

Stupid of me not to recognize the problem. Once a post has been read by anyone, it can no longer be edited. Except by me

David, dig into the permissions - I think there may be a built-in mode that sets an editing time limit. If not, there may be a simple mod that adds the feature. I don't think allowing unlimited editing is a good idea, but as someone who frequently edits his posts 2-3 times in the course of getting them into place, I'd like to see a 15 to 30 minute "oops, damn" window.

I will look over the settings and support info and see if there's anything I can suggest.
