Been watching the buzz on this one a long time. It looked for a bit that it was going to be horribly screwed up, then they made a couple of very right choices for director and casting and it looks to be a real screen-burner... in 3D, yet.

It's hard to imagine it being mediocre.

Taylor Kitsch could turn out to be an absolutely inspired choice for John Carter. Totally phlegmatic and yet too cool for school at the same time. Always liked him in Friday Night Lights, but then I saw him in Wolverine, and *really* was digging him.

Here is what clinched the need to see for me: Screenplay by Michael Chabon....

Somewhere out there is a screenplay of HSSWT by John Varley!

And lost in the nether: the screenplay of "More than Human" Sturgeon wrote with Orson Welles. I kid you not.

By the way, POTC 4 is based on a book by Tim Powers, of the same name as the subtitle of the film.
